Westfield State College, also known as simply Westfield or Westfield State, is a comprehensive, coeducational, four-year public university located in Westfield, which is a city in the US state of Massachusetts, in Hampden County, in the Pioneer Valley, with over 40 000 people, living within its limits, as estimated during the 2000 census.
Westfield State was established in 1838, as the first public co-educational college in America without barrier to race, gender and economic class, and was founded by noted educator and social reformer Horace Mann. The college offers its students, today, 31 undergraduate majors, 43 different concentrations, and many options for minors, including full and part-time programs that lead to bachelor's and advanced degrees, such as: B.A., B.S., B.S.W., B.S.E., B.S.N., M.Ed., M.S., M.A., M.P.A., M.S.W. and C.A.G.S.
Westfield State's athletic teams are known as the Owls and they compete in NCAA Division III, with 21 varsity teams, for both men and women. Their distinctive colors are blue, white and gold, and their mascot is Nestor.
